Yoko Ono Lennon Centre

T Sullivan Engineering was tasked with delivering a comprehensive internal metalwork package for
the prestigious Yoko Ono Lennon Centre at the University of Liverpool. This state-of-the-art facility,
designed to host a variety of cultural and educational events, required high-quality and aesthetically
pleasing metalwork to match its innovative architectural design. T Sullivan Engineering’s role was
crucial in ensuring that the centre's structural and aesthetic requirements were met with precision
and excellence.

Balustrade Works

The Yoko Ono Lennon Centre features multiple levels and open spaces that required robust and
visually appealing balustrades. T Sullivan Engineering installed both mild steel and stainless steel
balustrades throughout the building. Each balustrade was powder-coated to ensure durability and a
sleek finish, aligning with the centre’s modern design ethos. The powder-coated finish not only
enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also provided a protective layer to withstand the high foot traffic
expected in the facility.

The Project

In addition to the steel balustrades, T Sullivan Engineering incorporated glazed infill panels into the design. These panels, made from high-quality glass, were seamlessly integrated with the steel
frameworks. The combination of steel and glass provided a contemporary look, enhancing the building’s interior spaces by allowing natural light to flow freely while maintaining the necessary
safety standards.

A significant aspect of the project was the installation of a cantilever access staircase, providing a critical connection between level two and level three of the building. This staircase was not only a
functional element but also a striking architectural feature. T Sullivan Engineering engineered and installed the staircase, ensuring that it met both structural and aesthetic requirements. The cantilever design added a sense of lightness and openness to the space, aligning perfectly with the overall design language of the centre.

The centrepiece of the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre is its feature atrium, a large open space designed to be the heart of the building. T Sullivan Engineering installed bespoke balustrades around this atrium, which were designed to enhance the space’s grandeur while ensuring the safety of visitors. The balustrades featured a combination of materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, and glazed elements, creating a visually stunning and cohesive design.

T Sullivan Engineering’s involvement in the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre at the University of Liverpool underscores the company’s capability to deliver complex and high-profile projects. Their expertise in
metalwork, combined with a commitment to quality and innovation, has helped to create a landmark building that will serve the university and the broader community for years to come. This project further solidifies T Sullivan Engineering’s reputation as a leader in the field of specialized metalwork solutions.
