Steel works at levers site
in port sunlight

T Sullivan Engineering successfully completed the supply and installation of a staircase and walkway, complete with an overhead canopy, at the Levers site in Port Sunlight.

While the project wasn’t particularly large in scale, the design and installation presented significant challenges due to specific stipulations from the design team, notably the requirement to minimize bolted connections as much as possible.

To meet these demands, the staircase and walkway were fabricated as one large unit. However, given its size, it had to be transported on its side. The fabrication was designed to be just under 50mm below the maximum height allowed for transport on the UK motorway network.

The front of the canopy was created from a large welded goal post, which presented further transportation challenges. Due to the size of the goal post, we had to create a special transport frame to hold the unit at a specific angle. The goal post’s width required it to be moved under strict supervision from the transport police, in compliance with the Movement Order needed to navigate public roads.

Once on-site, the task was relatively straightforward: we offloaded the steelwork, twisted it in mid-air to the correct orientation, and placed it into position.

This project demonstrates T Sullivan Engineering’s ability to manage complex logistical and engineering challenges while delivering high-quality results on time.
